Dr. Ferreira also references a study that used vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and green tea extract as one of the ovarian cancer home remedies. Of course this would work better when used as part of the ketogenic diet.

Another variation of the ovarian cancer home remedies is intermittent fasting. Either with the keto diet or without it.

The Ketogenic Diet as a Treatment For Ovarian Cancer: How Does It Work, and What Should You Know?

Diet is an essential factor in preventing and combating the growth of cancer cells. Several studies show that the ketogenic diet can be favorable as support for the treatment of cancer.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers in the US, and every day more women are diagnosed with this condition. Conventional treatments offer solutions but with a high risk of toxicity as a side effect for the organism.

The Basis of The Ketogenic Diet and Its Effect On Metabolism

The macronutrient distribution of the ketogenic diet is composed of a high percentage of fats, regular protein consumption, and restriction of up to 5% carbohydrates.

The ketogenic diet aims to provide the necessary conditions for cells to replace glucose as the primary source of energy for fat metabolization. Fats, in the absence of carbohydrates, produce ketone bodies as a source of energy.

Tumor cells need to metabolize large amounts of glucose to live, while they cannot work with ketone bodies and fatty acids. Thus ketone bodies may be incompatible with the reproduction of tumor cells. [1]

The Metabolic Origin Of Cancer

The source of the disease occurs through a series of genetic mutations that result in the appearance of cells that replicate uncontrollably.

Cancer mutations are as personal as fingerprints, and since they do not follow a defined pattern, it is complicated to combat it.

Currently, some researchers have proposed changing the paradigm for the development of effective treatments in the fight against cancer, by suggesting that this disease, despite its genetic components, is a metabolic disease.

All cancers share the same characteristic: mitochondrial damage.

Due to this mitochondrial damage, the apoptosis process does not occur (the programmed death of the cells). Causing the cell to replicate uncontrollably, becoming immortal. [2]

But this point is important because cells with damaged mitochondria can only consume glucose, while healthy cells can feed on glucose and fat.

How Does The Energetic Metabolism Of Healthy Cells Work?

The cells mainly use two metabolic systems to obtain energy: oxidative phosphorylation (respiration or aerobic metabolism, with the presence of oxygen) and phosphorylation at the substrate level (anaerobic glycolysis or fermentation, without the presence of oxygen)

Oxidative phosphorylation is the primary energy metabolism used by healthy cells because it is the most efficient mechanism and allows up to 15 times more ATP to be obtained from glucose.

Oxidative phosphorylation is performed in the mitochondria, which is the “energy center” of any metabolic process where oxygen is involved.

In the mitochondria, the primary metabolic fuels are oxidized: glucose, fatty acids, or ketone bodies.

The second metabolic system, anaerobic glycolysis, is used in some organs, usually for short periods, during which a temporary oxygen deprivation forces the cell to use a different metabolic process.

Anaerobic glycolysis occurs in particular situations; for example, it occurs in the muscles when intense exercise depletes oxygen stores.

Glycolysis ferments glucose. It produces lactic acid, which in some organs, such as the heart, can be used directly, again, as fuel, but that is generally a waste product that is taken to the liver to transform it back into glucose and return it to the bloodstream.

Few cell types permanently use anaerobic glycolysis. An example of this exception is erythrocytes or red blood cells, which lack mitochondria and, therefore, can only metabolize glucose by fermentation, not by oxidation.

Glucose metabolization is a less efficient process than breathing (cell respiration), but it is a quick process. Therefore, it is considered an exceptional mechanism to avoid potentially dangerous situations for the cell.

Glycolysis is a fermentative process that happens in the cytosol, outside the mitochondria. Metabolic fuels that can be fermented are glucose, and some amino acids such as glutamine, but fatty acids or ketone bodies cannot be fermented.

Energy Metabolism Of Cancer Cells. How Do They Get The Energy To Reproduce?

The mitochondria of the cells suffer some type of damage (structural, in the mitochondrial DNA, or their lipid membrane), which prevents them from functioning correctly, these cellular organelles controls apoptosis (programmed cell suicide).

By losing their mitochondrial functionality, cells can no longer comply with apoptosis and can become “immortal,” increasing the risk of numerous genetic mutations and uncontrolled cell reproduction.

A woman with her hands covering her face, is worried about ovarian cancer.

Surgery and chemo therapy is scary. Shouldn’t you at least try these ovarian cancer home remedies?

The metabolism of mitochondria is oxidative, so, regardless of the amounts of oxygen available, the cell loses the ability to use oxidative phosphorylation of glucose, fatty acids or ketone bodies to obtain ATP and has to resort to glucose fermentation or of amino acids, like glutamine, for energy.

In situations of hypoxia, when there are low levels of oxygen available, the body synthesizes a molecule called HIF-1 alpha (induced hypoxia factor), this factor causes cell proliferation and is present in glycolysis processes. [3]

In healthy cells, HIF-1 alpha serves to increase the spread and repair of the damaged area.

Tumor cells may have enough oxygen. Still, they cannot use it due to mitochondrial damage; this means that they are permanently in hypoxia, causing the synthesis of large amounts of HIF-1 alpha, producing a dangerous situation that can cause the proliferation of cancer cells: the uncontrolled proliferation of cells that cannot comply with apoptosis.

Since glycolysis is a very inefficient metabolic process, the tumor cell needs to consume large amounts of glucose to maintain its energy levels and proliferation — very abundant glucose in the body of those who follow a traditional diet.

The tumor must create new blood vessels through a process known as angiogenesis. This process needs an inflammatory state to be able to carry out. High insulin levels favor the inflammatory state.

Can Cancer Be Cured With The Ketogenic Diet?

Curing or preventing cancer is not a simple process, such as restricting the supply of glucose to cancer cells; cancer can activate different metabolic pathways to ensure its viability and development.

But the partial blockage of the “fuel” of cancer cells is a significant victory, which can be achieved by taking vital actions, such as following the ketogenic diet.

Advantages Of The Ketogenic Diet Against Cancer

The benefits of the ketogenic diet against cancer are not limited to achieving certain levels of metabolic fuels in the blood. The ketogenic diet can provide essential advantages against cancer; its main benefits are:

  • Anti-inflammatory diet

The low levels of insulin and the high levels of glucagon induced by the ketogenic diet against cancer cause the synthesis of anti-inflammatory eicosanoid hormones. An anti-inflammatory state makes it difficult for the tumor to create new blood vessels through the phenomenon of angiogenesis.

  • Low levels of IGF-1

The hormone IGF-1 acts in different metabolic processes than insulin metabolism, but the blood levels of both hormones are entirely related. The Insulin-like Growth Factor has been related to the uncontrolled development of cancer cells, according to scientific studies. The ketogenic diet keeps IGF-1 levels low due to the low insulin response, providing essential elements to reduce the risk of this disease.

Although the ketogenic diet aims to decrease the percentage of body fat, deep ketosis is not precisely a catabolic state because metabolic changes mainly prevent the loss of muscle mass. Even so, ketosis prevents the growth of neoplastic tissues, because it helps decrease the Insulin-like Growth Factor.

  • Low levels of thyroid hormones

During the ketogenic diet against cancer, the levels of the hormone Triiodothyronine (T3) decrease. T3 is one of the body’s most active hormones and is involved, among other functions, in the control of metabolic rate and protein synthesis. The decrease in the levels of the T3 hormone slows the synthesis of the protein, making it challenging to synthesize the tumor tissue. [4]

That is the reason why a ketogenic diet against cancer, which can induce deep ketosis, is poorly indicated for athletes who intend to increase their muscle mass.

But, as many studies have shown, thyroid hormones (Thyroxine and Triiodothyronine) have a direct relationship in tumor growth and metastasis. By lowering the levels of these hormones through a ketogenic diet against cancer, tumor growth slows considerably.

Strengthening Of The Immune System

Some studies conclude that the immune system benefits and enhances with a ketogenic diet. A robust immune system is a powerful weapon against cancer.

Alternatives For The Treatment Of Ovarian Cancer

The high percentage of the ineffectiveness of conventional ovarian cancer treatment has led to the need to develop new options free of toxicity and side effects. The ketogenic diet has emerged as an alternative in the treatment of cancer due to metabolic change in cells.

The daily search for a perfect formula to prevent the growth of cancer cells or reduce the size and spread of existing ovarian cancer tumors has led researchers to investigate the effect of various toxicity-free mixtures of nutrients.

A study conducted in vitro and in vivo determined the efficacy of a mixture of specific nutrients with low toxicity, composed of:

  • Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid and as Mg, Ca and palmitate ascorbate) 700 mg
  • standardized green tea extract (80% polyphenol) 1000 mg
  • quercetin dihydrate from the Sophora japonica tree 50 mg
  • N-acetyl cysteine 200 mg (comes from the amino acid L-cysteine)
  • L-lysine 1000 mg (amino acid)
  • L -proline 750 mg (amino acid)
  • L-arginine 500 mg (amino acid)
  • selenium 30 μg
  • 2 mg copper
  • 1 mg manganese

Which was tested on the human ovarian cancer cells known as A-2780. [5]

The in vivo study in mice demonstrated the ability of the specific nutrient mixture to significantly suppress the growth of the ovarian tumor. Also blocking the tumor’s ability to metastasize to other organs, such as the lungs.

The in vitro study was conducted under strict test conditions, with standardized methods and materials. It showed that the mixture of specific nutrients decreased the capacity of the tumor, inhibiting the growth of tumors. It also prevented the expansion of cancer to other organs.

All These Findings Suggest The Potential For Alternative Treatments For Ovarian Cancer.

The high consumption of fruits and vegetables is related to cancer prevention, the formulation of this nutrient mixture is based on the nutrients usually found in fruits and vegetables, which can also be included in the ketogenic diet.

The effectiveness of green tea extract for cancer prevention is demonstrated, due to its high catechin content and its effectiveness in reversing the growth of cancer cells.

These findings suggest the increase in the consumption of fruits and vegetables, adjusted to the requirements of the ketogenic diet, and the daily use of green tea is also recommended.

Intermittent Fasting For The Treatment Of Ovarian Cancer

Intermittent fasting can be beneficial to health thanks to the change in metabolism that occurs in our body, especially in cancer patients. The ketogenic diet is a low-calorie diet that mimics the effects of fasting without having to stop eating.

Benefits

The reduction of cardiovascular risk, glucose levels, and IGF-1 (a possible marker of cancer), in addition to eliminating abdominal fat, are some of the results of this diet that has 60% fewer calories. [6]

In studies conducted in mice with breast and ovarian cancer, this diet allowed the rodent’s immune system to start annihilating tumor cells.

Specifically, studies indicate that fasting for 12 or 20 hours in a row, is the period of time that represents the most benefits. Such intermittent fasting can reduce the risk factors for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, or even reverse some of its consequences.

A lower incidence of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases has also been found among practitioners. Among the benefits of fasting, it has been found to help reduce metabolic age and improve neuroplasticity. [7]

Β-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) Can Create An Unfavorable Metabolic Environment For Cancer Cells

Β-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is one of the ketone bodies provided by fat metabolization through the keto diet. According to research conducted in women with ovarian or endometrial cancer, the ketogenic diet was able to decrease the proliferation of cancer cells, due to the metabolic change caused by ketone bodies, such as β-hydroxybutyrate. [8]

The practice of this diet also produced a decrease in the percentage of fat, including the mass of visceral fat, and retention of muscle mass, increasing the expectation and quality of life of women with this condition.

Can I Use The Ketones, Vitamins and Minerals, Without The Ketogenic Diet?

Richard says: The green tea extract, vitamins, minerals and amino acids were effective without the keto diet. So, that would be a good start.

Also, you should be using the Β-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) ketone supplement. As Dr. Ferreira mentioned, the Β-Hydroxybutyrate ketones produced during the ketogenic diet stopped the growth of cancer cells.

If it was me, and if I did nothing else, I would get this BHB ketone supplement.

Intermittent Fasting vs Ketogenic Diet As Ovarian Cancer Home Remedies

I personally use a modified ketogenic diet meal plan and intermittent fasting as my regular day-to-day eating habits. But then I’m not quite “average” either.

I’m not trying to lose weight or prevent ovarian cancer. I am trying to stay young and healthy, and the two go well together.

So, for the “average” person the intermittent fasting is MUCH easier than the ketogenic diet.

Therefore, I highly suggest that you start with the intermittent fasting and then combine it with the keto diet. Of course, that’s with the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and green tea supplements.

Doing the fasting, instead of the keto diet, is a very good second step in my opinion. However, if you have to choose one or the other, go with the keto diet.

If you need fast results, then go keto. That is, along with the other supplements.

Buy These Ovarian Cancer Home Remedies

Step #1. Get this keto meal plan. That way you know what to buy and how to prepare it the easy way.

Step #2. Get this BHB ketone supplement that stops cancer cell growth.

Step #3. I found the best supplements available that were used in the scientific study. Getting all of them would be best, but the most important ones are the vitamin C and green tea extract.

Let me say it again: If I only did one thing that was easy and effective…

I would get the Β-Hydroxybutyrate (BHB) ketone supplement.

These ovarian cancer home remedies are much easier and cheaper than chemo therapy. I do hope you will try them.
