I bought one of these 100% natural latex mattress toppers from Vytex for the guest bedroom.
I got the 2 inch Vytex latex topper in a medium firmness to put on top of a 3 inch firm topper from another company.
The idea was to get rid of the old mattress and make a DIY latex mattress. You can see more about that in this article: Ultimate Latex Mattress Topper Guide: Pain Free Deep Sleep.
Vytex Latex Mattress Toppers Are A Bit Different
When you are looking for a mattress topper, you don’t want just the first one that you see. You want to know the details and why it’s going to be the best choice for you. There are so many different kinds available, it can get quite frustrating. These 100% Natural Latex Mattress Toppers by Vytex should be in a category all on it’s own.
It is neither traditional Dunlop or Talalay latex, but of a newer technology and breed called, you guessed it, Vytex. While it’s still “technically” a latex mattress topper, it has some noticeable benefits.
Don’t fret, it still has all of the great attributes you are looking for just a different way of going about it. Let’s take a look at what makes Vytex so unique.
PROS
You are probably wondering what Vytex is, and we will get to that, but there are a lot of other benefits to buying this latex mattress topper. It is hypoallergenic, cool, comfortable, and good for the environment. Your conscious will rest as easy as your body the first night you sleep on it.
Vytex Material
So, what makes Vytex so intriguing? After all, it’s still in the latex mattress topper category.
The Vytex latex comes from the Hevea brasiliensis rubber tree. It is taken from there and then processed with aluminum hydroxide. That binds with the proteins and impurities from the latex. That gets rid of the specific proteins that are the cause of a latex allergy. The end result is pure latex that is hypoallergenic.
Vytex latex toppers are made with the Donlop process. However, the impurities, and proteins in the natural latex is removed beforehand. Which seems to make the Vytex latex a little more uniform from top to bottom. At least, that’s the impression I got when I examined mine.
That would make it feel a little more like the softer and springier Talalay toppers. Although I don’t think most people would notice the difference.
Beyond just making latex mattress toppers, Vytex is also making a lot of household and medical products as well. That’s because the Vytex latex can provide unique design, strength, and cleanliness features to many products.
This implies that Vytex latex is superior to other natural latex products.

100% Natural Latex. No Fillers
I’m sure you already figured that one out on your own.
After all, it comes from a tree, and the unique processing method removes the impurities from the natural latex sap.
You see, the sap is only approximately 40% latex rubber. The rest of it is water and waste materials from inside of the tree.
Unlike some of the Talalay latex mattress toppers, Vytex has no fillers, no petroleum, no VCOS’s, and no chemicals to worry about breathing in all night.
When I received mine, I couldn’t detect any smell.
In fact, they are probably the safest and cleanest mattress toppers you can buy on the market. That is something to really consider.
First of all, you cannot beat having a hypoallergenic safe mattress topper. I would certainly think you would want one for all of your family members after you try it out.
Well Ventilated For Cool Sleeping
If you have ever had a night of sleep where you toss and turn all night and keep waking up in a sweat, this mattress topper is for you.
Latex rubber is naturally cooler to sleep on than memory foam or any polyurethane foam. I have proved this in my own house.
This topper is porous enough to allow for great airflow while still keeping its integrity and firmness.
If you don’t have a well ventilated mattress topper you are going to sweat and be more uncomfortable than lying on your mattress itself. So, take advantage of this wonderful attribute. No more sweaty uncomfortable nights for you.
Supportive, Floating Comfort
A lot of buyers have claimed that it relieves pressure points more than you would believe. It also gives you more of a floating feeling rather than sinking in.
I bought the medium firmness and put it on top of a firm latex topper (different brand) that was on a plywood base. It made my sleeping comfort quite a bit better without losing the support I wanted.
Sinking too deep into a mattress topper is not what you want. It means that it isn’t supportive and you are doing more harm than good. You want to float!
Eco Friendly
Everything that Vytex does is environmentally satisfying. They have sound practices and control over how their product is made so that they don’t have to worry about doing anything to harm the environment.
All of their products are renewable and clean. You won’t find anything like harmful VCOS’s in this product or where they are made.
You and your conscious can rest easy.
Choose Your Firmness and Thickness Desired
Whether you want to soften your mattress a lot or a little, or improve an old mattress you can have it your way.
The firmness rating comes in soft, medium, and firm. While the thicknesses available are 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inch, and 3 inches thick.
When you want to improve an old mattress, I recommend the 3 inch thickness to cover up and lumps or sagging as much as possible.
Also, thicker and firmer is generally better for heavy weight champions.
If you just want to soften up a mattress that is too firm, you can go thinner and softer.
Made In Vietnam, Not China
Vietnam is a major latex producing country.
Also, Vietnam is not our economic rival like China is. That may not be important to you, but I hope you will consider it.
CONS
I really, really, like this mattress topper if you haven’t noticed. However, there are a couple points I’d like to make.
Smell? What Smell?
I did not notice any smell from my topper when it arrived. However, some of the customers have complained about a slight latex rubber smell, or a bad smell of some kind.
I have found the same thing to be true of all the mattress toppers I have read about. So, I guess some people are just more sensitive than others.
Price
The firmness of the topper doesn’t affect the price, but thicker and firmer toppers will cost more than the thinner ones.
This mattress topper currently is very similar in price to the other latex toppers available. When I first wrote this article over a year ago (before I bought mine) the Vytex latex prices were quite a bit higher. That could change again.
However, my Vytex latex topper was made in Vietnam. Whereas many other toppers are made in China and could be subject to price increases.
With a Vtex latex topper you are getting such a high quality product. One that is 100% natural and safe for the environment. That, almost always, comes at an additional expense.
It’s Not Traditional Dunlop or Talalay Latex
Although most people couldn’t tell the difference, or even care, that this is processed in a unique way. Until Vytex latex topper becomes more well known, and it will be, some people don’t want to be early adopters of new technology.
If you are a die hard traditional Dunlop or Talalay latex person, you are probably sitting there scratching your head. For our top picks of traditional Dunlop and Talalay toppers go here.
For you Dunlop latex fans, you shouldn’t be shy, because Vytex are Dunlop processed latex mattress toppers, but better!
Should You Sleep On this Vytex Mattress Topper?
The 100% natural latex mattress toppers by Vytex are an excellent product. Once more people have experienced it, like I have, it will be very popular.
Although the manufacturer’s picture shows the topper’s color as being off white, mine is the same color as my other 100% natural latex topper.
I have no reason to think that my other brand latex topper will last any longer than my Vytex topper. Since Vytex latex is virtually allergen free, what more do you want? Get it at Amazon
